The traveling exhibit "Benjamin Franklin: In Search of a Better World" will be on
display at the Main Branch of the Oxnard Public Library from December 17, 2009
to February 17, 2010. It is a magnificent 1,000-square-foot exhibit of photographs
of historical documents and artifacts showcasing the life and achievements of a
remarkable man dedicated to making the world a better place. Benjamin Franklin
was a scientist, inventor, entrepreneur, humorist, philanthropist, diplomat, and the
only American political figure to sign five key founding documents of the United
States.
Organized by the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary, Philadelphia, in cooperation
with the American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office, "Benjamin
Franklin: In Search of a Better World" was made possible by a major grant from the
National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH): great ideas brought to life. The
traveling exhibit is based upon a major exhibit of the same name, developed by the
Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary, which has traveled to major cities in the United
States and abroad (http://www.benfranklin300.org).
The Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary is a nonprofit organization established through a major grant from
The Pew Charitable Trusts to educate the public about Franklin's enduring legacy.
The Oxnard Public Library was one of only two libraries in the entire state of
California to be awarded the honor of hosting this exhibit. In 2010, the main
branch will sponsor free educational and entertaining programs for all ages to
